Mina

“ On the second day she drowned the giants of the sea, except those in deep waters, for they were too well-wrought, and Pride stopped her hand. ”It’s all a bit hazy but Mina vaguely remembers the world she came from before sinking to the depths of the ocean, constrained by the demons that lurked beneath. She recalls running across the sand, barefoot but content with how things were. Occasionally stopping to forage for shells and small creatures that buried themselves below. Her parents were always nearby but distant, explorers of the Lords of Fortune that often ventured off to sea with little notice. Mina was infatuated with the idea of joining them one day as well. When she was a teenager her parents were killed on an expedition, the details hazy but the results clear. It was a tragic accident, an expedition gone wrong, but death had always been a risk. Mina had grown up with the Lord's company long enough to know. Of course she wept over it, but the pain was minimal. Instead of agonizing over what could have been she simply focused on herself, sharpening her skills so that she too would one day take missions and claim glory. However, Mina lacked a bit of impulse control. Her skills were noteworthy but she was impatient and arrogant in a way - she saw herself as deserving more of a challenge. Though she got along well enough with her peers she was also a source of aggravation. Mina advocated for herself on multiple occasions, up until she was finally given permission to join a small crew venturing across the sea. It was meant to be something small, a trip along the coastline that might possibly find a few trinkets here and there. Mina was excited nonetheless.Until things went wrong.
It should have been a simple expedition. Yet nature had other plans. A storm broke out that pulled their small vessel out farther than they intended, the large waves decimating the ship in a matter of seconds. Mina was thrown overboard, sinking below the waves. By that point she had accepted her fate, lost to sea just like her parents had been so many years ago. Yet something stopped her, held her in place and gave her just enough air. Not enough to feel comfortable, she could feel the dizziness settling in, but enough to stay conscious. The creature had glowing eyes, narrowed slightly as they proposed a deal.Join them. She would live.Mina refused. So, they dragged her down further, cut off the miniscule amount of air they had ‘gifted’ her until she fell unconscious. That was when the demon settled in, digging its roots deep into her being as she ‘died’. Mina fought the entire way, up until she blacked out and presumably should have passed on. Yet when the demon took over it she merged with it somewhat, the memories of her past left behind despite ‘Mina’ being dead. When the siren awoke again, she too took on the name Mina, fully aware of the traces of life still clinging to her desperately.Almost two decades later Mina would find herself heeding the call of Ghilan'nain despite her questionable loyalty towards the Sulahnir. Though she had now spent most of her life as a siren, those memories from before refused to concede. They shaped her very personality, the demon she was unable to fully shed itself of the burdens from her previous life. So she opted to use them instead, volunteering to breach the surface alongside a chosen mermaid to investigate Thedas. For the Sulahnir and for herself. Ghilan'nain? She was not sure.

PERSONAL
PERSONALITY Mina is ambitious and arrogant in a way, pursuing things that benefit herself more than the collection group. Even before she 'drowned' she had been known for her impulsiveness, striving to prove her worth amongst the commonfolk. Her confidence has been both her boon and her curse, the ultimate cause of her eventually sinking beneath the sea.She questions authority and is assertive when deemed necessary, especially as the youngest Sulahnir and one who still bore memories from before. Her loyalties has always been questionable at best, near treacherous at the worst of times. Yet her talents are undeniable - she is a skilled fighter who has bested even some of the oldest sirens. Some say the elf beneath still fights to this day, struggling against the demon that has dared to occupy her body. Though it has been proven time and time again she has no heartbeat, just as 'dead' as every other Sulahnir. POSITIVE TRAITS - ambitious

The Call Dragon Age. The moment Ghilan'nain was freed the Sulahnir felt their connection with their Mother reestablished once more. It was a moment of contention for them, especially between the already fragile peace between the mermaids & sirens. While those who remembered the days of Elvhenan wished to return to their Mother, the newer generation were apprehensive at best. They had fulfilled her final request to guard against those across the sea for ages with nothing to show. So, a compromise was formed after several days of back and forth. One envoy from each side would breach the surface, re-establishing contact with Thedas in order to scout the situation. Mina was volunteered due to being the youngest siren, her memories of the world above still intact despite their best efforts.Though she agreed without pushback, it was not simply to benefit the Sulahnir. Mina desired to investigate the memories that still plagued her, hoping to find peace with them and free herself. Ghilan'nain was not a concern to her.
Sulahnir

Lore
Ghilan'nain was not just the Mother of Halla but the mother to many deep sea creatures that traverse the waters of Thedas. In her time she created and subsequently wiped out many of her creations, sparing the deep sea creatures because she deemed them too well-wrought. Among these creatures were the Sulahnir, elven slaves merged with forsaken demons, an old and rare type that lingers in the sea specifically. Their name comes from the elven word Sulahn, inspired by the haunting melodies that left their lips while they idled in the water. It’s said that their cries are the final words of their elven hosts, their last thoughts forever haunting the new creatures formed from their depths. In the time of Elvhenan they lived in the surrounding waters of Thedas, rarely seen as they dove to depths that even light could not reach. Ghilan'nain was their Mother, their creator whose words were law. When she ordered them to retreat further into the water they did so unconditionally, their existence depending on their ability to be unintrusive. So they left Thedas entirely, traversing across the sea where even the Evanuris did not know of. Only their connection to Ghilan'nain remained strong, the Sulahnir unable to return so long as she did not bid them to return. They built a home on the ocean floor, crafting monuments to their Mother while also developing a society over time.Eventually, they received another order from Ghilan'nain - they were to prevent anyone from crossing the seas towards Thedas. It was their last command from her, as she would eventually be trapped by Fen’Harel and their connection severed as a result. Though they were able to move freely they chose to obey her final command, attacking anyone who dared cross the sea. It was the beginning of their conflict with not only the Kossith, but the Executors and the Devouring Storm. The Kossith arrived in Thedas in -410 Ancient, the precursors to the Qunari and the Qun. Not much is known about them other than that they were captured and turned into the first Ogres during the First Blight.
Their group was smaller than initially intended due to Sulahnir interference, the elven creations taking down several of their ships in order to prevent them from reaching Thedas. A few of the Kossith ships broke free from the attack and retreated back to their original homeland, warning their people of the creatures beneath the waves. Those that escaped and continued forward would eventually land in the Korcari Wilds, only to be captured and killed by darkspawn. It would not be until 6:30 Steel that the Qunari, the descendants of the Kossith, would eventually make their way to Par Vollen. In the time between the journeys the ancient Qunari had created the Adaari, Qunari capable of not only breathing fire but seeing the hidden enemies below the sea. Their abilities allowed them to safely cross the sea, their eyes seeking out the hidden Sulahnir hidden in the depths of the ocean. The Adaari’s fire warded off their attacks, the heat strong enough to dry out their skin to the point of death. Sulahnir grew to fear the Adaari, eventually turning to the Executors and the entity known as the “Devouring Storm” for assistance. Unfortunately they were not able to prevent the Qunari from reaching Thedas. The Sulahnir would not breach the surface again for several ages, begrudgingly allowing the Executor’s to cross but nobody else. In exchange they were allowed to live without interference, thriving under the waters and eventually evolving in a peculiar way. Their species split into two - one that favored their demonic origins while the other leaned more into their spiritual counterpart. It became a point of contention between the two, the two eventually seeing themselves as different species entirely. Those who favored their demonic origins were known as Sirens while the other Mermaids, begrudgingly inhabiting the seafloor together. It was not until 9:52 Dragon that the Sulahnir’s connection to Ghilan'nain was reestablished when she and Elgar'nan were freed from their Fade prison unintentionally by Rook. Though their reverence for their Mother remained there was still the matter of their allegiance with the Executors, the Sulahnir eventually choosing a single representative to breach the surface once more and return to Thedas.
Culture
Prior to the Evanuris sealing by Fen’Harel, the Sulahnir did not have a set culture. They were closely tied to their Elven counterparts, branded with Ghilan'nain’s Vallaslin along their faces and bodies with lyrium. Much of their initial time was spent in what is now known as the Ossuary, one of her many underwater laboratories that held her creations of the sea. When she was ordered to raze Thedas of her creations they were freed, ordered to slip away into the depths of the ocean in exchange for their lives. In their solitude they continued to revere Ghilan'nain as she was their creator and Mother, building temples along the ocean floor in her name. They often sang songs for her and offered gifts at the various temples though she would not call for them for quite some time. As they were originally few in number they did not initially have any form of leadership, simply surviving together by scavenging and feasting on the other sea life. In the beginning they procreated by scavenging for the bodies of those that sank to the sea, transforming them into their kind by coaxing the forsaken demons that clung to the bodies. It was a form of blood magic they had learned while in Ghilan'nain’s laboratory, something they would teach to each new Sulahnir that was created. After the Evanuris and they were granted free will, they did discover their ability to procreate naturally as well. So their race grew at an impressive rate as a result, though they would soon discover only the original Sulahnir, those created from “willing” victims, and those born afterwards were capable of natural procreation. Those who were of the dead were simply not able to, only capable of coaxing demons into the bodies of the drowned. It was the first instance in which a hierarchy was established, where those who were capable of natural reproduction were considered to be stronger and more capable. They would eventually be elevated to leadership roles while the rest were designated as either scavengers, hunters, crafters, or healers.
When the Sulahnir split into two subspecies, Mermaids became the de facto leaders originally as they were all capable of natural procreation. Sirens were originally considered lesser until a brief, but deadly, civil war broke out between the two groups. It was eventually agreed that one of each would represent the group as a whole, though there would always be a bit of tension between the two.Their main leadership consists of the surviving original Sulahnir, a group of ten who are neither Siren nor Mermaid. They are rather secluded and do not engage with the rest often anymore, preferring to stay in their Ghilan'nain Temples and maintain their relationship with the Executors. They pretty much leave everything else to the Siren and Mermaid leaders to deal with. One would basically consider them similar to the Antivan Royalty with no real power or desire for it.Surprisingly enough, they are fluent in several languages beyond ancient Elven. They picked up Qunlat during their many encounters with the Kossith and Qunari and are also able to speak Trade as a result of their alliance with the Executors. As a default they do stick to Elven but will adapt as needed. As they mainly live underwater they do not wear any form of clothing, considering their natural armor enough. They do like to decorate themselves with shells, though Sirens are fond of wearing blood and the parts of other sea creatures as well. Their sensitive parts are pretty much covered by their natural armor and they do not have any shame in regards to being effectively ‘naked’. As a result they would also not be bothered by any other race’s lack of clothing as it is simply natural to them.
Biography
BothAs a deep sea race, their bodies are more accumulated to the cold than the heat. Their bodies have a natural armor that protects them from the chill as well as the intense pressure surrounding them at all times. They are also capable of seeing in the dark due to their highly sensitive vision but are sensitive to light as a result - it is difficult for them to see on land and they would most likely need to cover their eyes with something. Another side effect of their adaptations is that they are also incredibly sensitive to the heat and have a natural fear of fire, though this is due to their encounters with the Adaari.Their tails can shift into feet for walking on land but many of them are not comfortable enough with it. As a result, any Sulahnir that breaches the surface and returns to Thedas will more than likely struggle to walk at first. As a race, the Sulahnir have a natural form of blood magic that protects them from water pressure, allows their bodies to adjust to land or sea, and gives them a slight healing factor underwater. It uses THEIR own blood instead of others but is absolutely blood magic. They naturally draw demons and spirits to themselves as a result but do not fear either. The Sulahnir are well aware of their origins.Though they are exclusively Elven, there is a possibility of them transforming Qunari or Humans as well. They would not be able to create Dwarven Sulahnir since they can’t be possessed.MermaidsMermaids are those who grew and developed to the point where they leaned more into their spiritual side of things. Though they were all born from demons, mermaid’s good nature eventually caused the demons within to revert into Spirits of Perseverance, those who strove to continue on no matter what. Mermaids are the ‘mages’ of the race, more of their elven bodies exposed in exchange for greater magic. They wield blood magic naturally but also intentionally as well as there is no taboo against it. As they have always been surrounded by blood magic, demons, and spirits it simply is a tool for them. They sacrifice the sea creatures around them mainly for their magic though at times also use their own blood. Those who choose to willingly accept a demon cause it to turn into a spirit of perseverance, transforming them into a mermaid and establishing a symbiotic relationship between the mortal and spirit.✦ Mermaids have hair and tend to be leaner than their Siren counterparts.
✦ More of their elven body is exposed and they have less natural armor. As a result they actually have more of their bioluminescence markings also exposed. This helps ward off other deep sea predators as well as attract mates between them.
✦ Only they can naturally procreate due to their bodies being living rather than drowned beings.
Have naturally evolved to have strong and flat molars as a result of effectively living as herbivores. They cannot digest any form of meat or fish as a result as well.
✦ Most, if not all, are incredibly strong mages. However, their magic remains strongest underwater and they are closer to normal mortal mages when on land. They exclusively use blood magic.
✦ Their songs are soothing and may lull people to sleep. Contrary to folklore, they do not seduce anyone with them.SirensSirens are the warriors & rogue-adjacent of the group, their natural armor stronger and covering more of their bodies than mermaids. Due to a mix of their natural blood magic and bodies decomposing slower underwater they have extremely tough scales and do not feel pain as easily as mermaids do. They are often more aggressive and dangerous as they lean into their natural demon side and create ONLY by drowning their victims and forcing demons into their corpses. As a result Sirens CANNOT naturally procreate as they are dead in a sense. Unlike mermaids, sirens cannot use magic as easily beyond their natural gifts.✦ Sirens do not have any hair at all as they engage in close combat and hair is a burden. Those who had hair in the past were culled by natural selection.
✦ Their armor is thicker and covers more of their body. Its strength comes from the fact that they are effectively ‘dead’ compared to mermaids. They also do not feel pain as vividly either as a result.
✦ They cannot procreate naturally at all. Sirens are created by drowning their victims and forcing demons into their bodies.
✦ Exclusively carnivores. Their teeth are sharp and allow them to tear into their prey with ease.
✦ Very few sirens are mages. Their dead bodies simply do not channel magic as effectively. Their culture also isn’t interested in it either - they prefer up close combat. Those that are mages are often shunned as a result.
✦ Their songs are ear-piercing and can cause extreme pain. Also in contrast to folklore, they do not seduce people. They prefer to stun and get in close to drown their victims quickly to create more of them.
Azar

“ On the second day she drowned the giants of the sea, except those in deep waters, for they were too well-wrought, and Pride stopped her hand. ”Azar remembers the days of Elvhenan, though his experience was very brief. As one of the first children of the original Sulahnir, he is as close to their version of ‘royalty’ as one can get. His memories of the ‘Ossuary’ are brief, its true name lost to time. They had long since been released into the oceans surrounding Thedas, pursuing their own interests beneath the sea. Ghilan'nain was a sight he had never seen but he had felt her power, her will over them absolute. He revered their ‘Mother’ just as any other would, even as their connection was forcibly severed after the betrayal of Fen’Harel. He was only a child when they were freed from Ghilan'nain’s influence, left to guard the sea from those across. In his youth the Sulahnir were still testing the limits with blood magic, one unified race before the creation of the first Siren. They had learned from Ghilan'nain, using blood magic to force demons inside the drowned victims that occasionally floated down. However they were still demons, able to mimic Ghilan'nain’s creations somewhat but not perfectly. Azar was capable of creating Sirens just as well, his talent with magic unique among his kind. However, he was not as fond of forcing demons into the bodies of the deceased, instead risking his life to swim further up.Azar began the practice of turning those before they died, allowing them to live on as one of them rather than subjugating them. He was but a teen at the time but wise beyond his years, eventually advocating for the ban of using the corpses of those drowned. However Sirens were only created one singular way unlike mermaids, unable to conceive due to the dead nature of their bodies. It was the first moment the Sulahnir fought amongst themselves, eventually forced to acknowledge that the Sirens & Mermaids were not the same as before. Their needs and culture were different, enough so that one could not simply rule both. It was recognized that they would individually decide on what they believed in, operating as one but allowing their moral compasses to drift apart.
Though it was a contentious relationship, the Sulahnir were by themselves. There was no other alternatives in terms of contact. So Azar was willing to accept that he would be forced to ‘get along’ with the sirens, continuing to practice what he preached but not forcing it on the others. Many of those he created thrived as mermaids and while he had the ability to conceive himself he never did so. Azar did not wish to conceive for the sake of reproduction but for love, something he did not find among his peers. So, as the ages passed he remained by himself for the most part, instructing those in the way of ‘magic’ so that they may continue to thrive as a group.During the first breach following the fall of Elvhenan Azar did not surface, remaining under the waters as they made first contact with the Executors. A negotiation was made following the Kossith’s escape from their grasp, both to Thedas and to their new home. It was highly unpopular amongst the Sirens, Azar himself unhappy with it, but they had little options. Especially when the Adaari came into being, their flames warding off the Sulahnir from the ships that continued to cross.Several ages would pass yet again, their connection suddenly reestablished with Ghilan'nain following her escape from the veil. Azar immediately volunteered to serve as the mermaid’s enjoy, eager to seek out their ‘Mother’ to serve once more. It was a surprisingly unpopular opinion among the sirens though, enough so that a siren was also volunteered as his companion. Azar was not pleased with the decision but relented, knowing they needed to cooperate. He does not trust Mina, as he is not fond of the Sirnes in general, but begrudgingly walks beside her as they breach the surface once more.

PERSONAL
PERSONALITY Azar is rather stoic, a man who often prefers seclusion and isolation after surviving the ages. He is deeply loyal to both Ghilan'nain and the Sulahnir, a highly respected individual due to being a direct child of the first. There are many others of course, but some has perished over the ages due to the countless battles above sea. He is one of the few who preferred to stay beneath the waves, perfecting his magic and teaching it to other blossoming mermaids. He was even responsible for training the few siren mages they had, though he was reluctant to do so.As a mermaid, he values life above all else, though his magic contradicts this. Azar does not recognize animals as life as they cannot converse with him, thus justifying his use of their blood in his rituals. He avoids meat entirely when it comes to food though, cultivating the different seagrass and algae instead for sustenance. Azar is also prejudiced against Sirens, cooperating only out of necessity.Despite his positive moral compass he is loyal to Ghilan'nain, having existed while she was still free before Fen'Harel's betrayal. His goal is to once again reunite the Sulahnir with Ghilan'nain at any cost. POSITIVE TRAITS - calm

It made the most sense to him as someone who had witnessed a bit of her glory during the old days.Azar was forced to compromise by allowing a siren to also join his side, the two expected to return with information before a decision is made. He is adamant about joining their 'Mother' but respects the deal that was made, even if he does not like Mina.
Lilya de Riva

9:25 Dragon - 9:30 DragonLilya Cattaneo is the eldest daughter of the Cattaneo family, a rather old elven noble family that has survived the ages surprisingly well. Their wealth, while not comparable to a merchant prince, was substantial. However, a certain ‘condition’ plagued their family relentlessly, claiming the lives of every eldest after a few decades. It was of course no surprise that Lilya was also born with the same condition - the inability to feel pain. Surprisingly, she could feel everything else, but pain simply did not exist to her. While it sounds like a gift, it was also a curse. Lilya did not register when she sustained injuries as a result, resulting in more scratches and bruises than was normal for a child of her age. She even occasionally caused injury to her eyes, resulting in a pair of goggles being procured to protect them. No Doctor could figure out exactly what was causing her condition, but her mother simply accepted it for what it was. Lilya remembers the countless times her mother would sit her down, encouraging her to look to the future to see how she could utilize this gift to bring their family fortune. At the age of five years old, tragedy stuck. The Cattaneo family’s estate burned down entirely, claiming the lives of the entire family. All except Lilya, the young girl just barely escaping the suffocating flames. Her resourcefulness was remarkable despite her age, enough so that she was eventually handed over to the Crows along with the remaining Cattaneo fortune. She was given to House de Riva, beginning training almost immediately despite the trauma of losing her family.Surprisingly, Lilya took to that well.
9:30 Dragon - 9:38 DragonIt was noticed almost right away that the young girl did not flinch from attacks, even as knives were dug into her skin repeatedly. Instead she followed through with each one of her attacks, absolutely pummeling a few poor fledglings who were more susceptible to pain. She was resilient in ways nobody would expect from a young elf, especially when her magic eventually manifested at the age of eight. Due to her condition, Lilya would often burn herself by mistake, leading to scarring along her hands and arms.Eventually she was noticed by Viago de Riva, a master poisoner in the same House who recognized her talents. He took her under his wings despite not being a mage himself, commissioning a tutor for that aspect instead. Viago taught her alchemy, teaching her to craft potions that could help keep her up despite the dangers of her conditions. Lilya also learned a few of his poisons as well, but it was the potions that proved to be most useful to her. She made it a point to learn how to care for herself medically rather than relying on others, especially given how accident prone she was.As she grew, Lilya blossomed into a remarkable enough assassin. Though she had her faults she was great with her craft, her magic controlled enough but not overbearing. She learned to use her condition to her advantage better, often throwing herself in the frontlines despite being a mage. A lot of her contracts were completely with little to no magic as a result, its use simply not necessary to her needs. Lilya was fully recognized as an assassin at the age of eighteen.
9:38 Dragon - 9:51 DragonLilya did a mix of solo and joint contracts, occasionally from other House’s but mostly sticking with House de Riva Crows. She became semi-famous for her unique ‘brawler-mage’ style, using her staff to hit people with more than to cast magic with. It was a point of contention between her and Viago, the man insisting on her treating the staff with a little more care. After all, it was expensive to replace and he knew it would inevitably come out of his pocket.Lilya broke about five to six staves over the course of the decade, much to Viago’s annoyance.Eventually her reckless behavior came back to bite her, impulsiveness often taking the place of critical thinking at the worst times. After the Antaam invasion Lilya had become rather tense over the situation, eager to rid Treviso of the Qunari threatening their home. When she saw the chance to save people she took it, unknowingly interfering with a Talon operation months in the making. It was the first time she found herself truly experiencing the repercussions of her actions, though Viago simply sent her away to avoid anything further. It was then she met Varric, agreeing to join him on his quest to stop Solas.
Lilya’s Condition - Companion / Post - Veilguard RookAfter the fall of Minrathous, Lilya continues working with the Crows alongside her companions as they grapple with the Antaam situation. At some point she returns to the ruins of the Cattaneo Estate, drawn to it after nearly witnessing the fall of her ‘home’ again. It’s there she discovers a few missives that lead to another city north of Treviso, indicating an odd connection between her family and whatever is there. She also suddenly experiences a sensation that makes her flinch, causing her to hold a hand up to her single red eye. It had grown slightly brighter but she had only noticed now, especially once she realized what she had felt.Lilya had felt pain for the first time.An expedition to the city mentioned brings them to an old home, completely abandoned and hidden away. After further searching they discover a secret covering that leads to a passage beneath, uncovering an odd ritual site. The veil feels thinner here, eventually several demons emerging and instigating a battle. It’s here where Lilya feels yet another pang of pain before a sudden surge of magic pulls them all into the fade against their will.
There, they come face to face with a massive demon - Ego. He is enormous, bigger than an Ogre. It is here they discover the origins of Lilya’s condition - an act of blood magic that had been passed down through the generations. Her ancestor had made a deal with Ego long ago, each generation offering a sacrifice in exchange for their freedom. Every single firstborn had been “gifted” a mark directly into their eye at birth, allowing their natural magic to hide away the traces of others over the years. It was in fact a direct connection to Ego, absorbing pain until a certain point. Only then would Ego seek them out, feasting on these eyes full of pain as his payment for their family’s safety.Lilya’s reckless and unique circumstances had caused the limit to be breached earlier than normal, resulting in Ego guiding them to him. As with every cursed Cattaneo child, he offered them a choice - they could remain pain-free forever in exchange for their eye, though the next generation would continue to be burdened with this curse. The alternative? They could break the agreement and retain their freedom for future generations as well. However, they would have to endure every bit of pain Ego had shielded them from over the years. Should they succeed, they would still lose their eye but they would be free from their deal as well as their future generations. Of course, they would also begin to experience pain again.> Accept Ego’s terms and remain pain-free forever, cursing the next generation as a result.> Accept Ego’s alternative terms and experience 28 years of pain in an instant, potentially dying as a result. Should they succeed they and their future family would be free of Ego permanently.

Act 1 *xx Act 2 xx Act 3
Amakos

Amakos was born in Rivain, their parents originally from Kont-aar before they left the Qun and traveled down South. They eventually settled in Llomerryn where Amakos’s younger sibling Ariella would be born. For a few years it was just the four of them until conflict took the lives of their parents, leaving Amakos and Ariella as orphans. Amakos opted to protect his sister from that point forward, dedicating his time to ensuring she was provided for even at the cost of his own comfort. The two were inseparable.Amakos worked on building their own skills, learning a few trade skills like sewing and fishing, eventually joining a few local groups for coin. All their money went into providing for Ariella, giving her better clothes and food than the orphanage itself could provide. For a while things worked out until Amakos’s magic developed, instigating a freak accident that cost them their left hand. It took months for them to heal and even then it became a hindrance, forcing them to re-learn many skills with the use of one hand.Eventually they sort of managed though their proficiency would always be worse than others. Their magic, while not condemned in Riviaini culture, made them less appealing to prospective parents. It was something they worked to hone on their own but combined with the lack of a hand they were overlooked several times in favor of other children who were ‘whole’. Eventually, someone was interested in Ariella.Despite promising to stay by her side, Amakos tricked Ariella into going with her new parents in hopes that it would give her a better life. They knew their lack of a hand would always hold them back and they decided it was better for them to part ways. So, once she had been taken away, Amakos began to focus on themself. They worked on controlling their magic the best they could without a tutor, spending long nights at the pier blasting the water with bolts of lightning.
At the age of 12, Amakos officially joined the Lords of Fortune and parted ways with their orphanage. Due to their youth and disability, many of the jobs they initially took were low-risk and low paying. It was mostly local gigs that allowed them to expand on their skills, eventually leading into their interest in cartography. Amakos spent a lot of time with the LoF’s cartographers studying maps and learning how to write their own. They were taught how to translate the lay of the land to parchment as well as how to use those same maps to navigate as needed. By the age of 15 they were tagging along with more experienced crews, learning in the field and eventually mastering their craft. When Amakos turned 18, they were given their prosthetic hand by their teacher, carved from a special type of wood that allowed their magic to travel through freely. It allowed them to make basic hand gestures and move the individual fingers but Amakos couldn’t form a solid grip on anything. Years of practice allowed them to not only utilize their hand as a magic focus but also write with it as well, special tools crafted to allow them to attack their pens to the digits. Their new hand could never be as good as their natural one but it opened up opportunities that had been lost to them previously.Amakos became one of the LoF’s most skilled cartographers and navigators after dedicating their time and energy into their craft, often leading expeditions through ruins and all across Thedas. They taught themself how to read the stars in order to help navigate the oceans, even occasionally steering the boats as needed. However, after several incidents it was discovered Amakos was sensitive to the spirits around them, unable to protect themselves from spirits who grew too curious. Several times they would suddenly, though temporarily, become possessed by different spirits who lingered about. It could be helpful but not always, the spirits not necessarily manifesting to benefit them.

PERSONAL
Personality Amakos is a diligent worker who sets out to complete every task given to them. They've often sacrificed time and energy to ensure they complete the task. A lot of this stems from their own confidence issues due to their disability, their prosthetic offering them unique abilities while robbing them of others. It's one of the biggest sources of conflict in their life since they're unable to hold or grasp anything with their left hand.Outside of that, they can be a little bit of a pushover and often try to work with their team. The one instance they broke away from the group landed them in deep shit so they try to be a little more careful. Otherwise they do enjoy helping their team out and building strong comraderies with those around them. POSITIVE TRAITS
- diligent
- curious NEGATIVE TRAITS
- pushover
- self-sacrificial TEMPERAMENT relaxed
OTHER
POWERS / ABILITIES - Magic — Amakos has an affinity for lightening magic specifically, though they can conjure very weak flames as needed. It's not as potent or controlled as a circle mage's magic due to their self-training. They have moderate control over their magic and can be counted on for fights.- Spirit Affinity — Amakos has an affinity for spirits and is sensitive to them. Unfortunately they don't have the proper training to protect themselves as only females are trained as Seers. They are more susceptible to possessions as a result.- Cartography & Navigation — Amakos is a fully trained cartography who is capable of reading maps as well as making them. They can make sense of the different styles across Thedas but is most familiar with Rivaini maps. They are also a fantastic navigator and can steer large ships with ease.

VERSES
Dragon Age - Companion Main Verse . Amakos is one of the trusted Cartographers of the Lords of Fortune with several maps from different time periods as well as current ones. Some of these maps are indiscernible until they explain that they are the works of spirits. Their affinity with spirits proves them to be a great asset, especially given these spirits can read said maps. Amakos offers their skills in exchange for the usage of Rook's Eluvian, intent on following up on some unsettling rumors.✦ Following up on rumors leads them to Tevinter where they discover their sister Ariella had been taken. Her foster family is located but Ariella no longer lives with them. It seems to be a tough subject and the parents aren't willing to divulge much more.✦ The trails leads to Venatori where they must fight through a few to reunite with Ariella. She is currently working with the Venatori due to her talent with blood magic, forcing them to retreat. The Venatori do not seem to respect her but it doesn't seem to matter to the Qunari mage - her goals are far more important. Like Amakos she is also sensitive to spirits but chooses to mingle with demons instead.✦ In their final conflict, Amakos is forced to either subdue her or kill her. Dragon Age - Rook Side Verse . Amakos was initially only meant to guide their group to the target up until they realized who was truly the culprit. With little time to spare and spirits urging them, they kill the Rivaini noble before they have a chance to complete their transaction. Though the mission was a success, their actions ruffle a few other nobles and they're forced to step back for a while. Its during this that they meet Varric, opting to join him on his quest instead.
Lucca de Riva (not rook)

9:16 dragon - 9:29 DragonAs a child his duty was always known to House Valisti. He is the bastard son of one of their merchant princes and one of their slaves, his role being the ‘donation’ to the Antivan Crows following the early death of his predecessor. He is an elf-blooded human with his ears human-shaped but pointed at the edge. For the first few years of his life he was cared for by the slaves exclusively, kept hidden away until he was old enough to be sent to Velabanchel to begin his training. He does not know which merchant prince is his father but it matters not - he is not eligible to inherit a single coin.Velabanchel was a cruel place even as an Antivan Crow rather than one of their prisoners. His early days were spent learning several different languages from Orlesian to Qunlat, the threat of death very real for them. Each child in training wore a mask to ensure their identities were unknown to each other, their ‘rooms’ simply cells in a simple hallway. Those who took off their masks were killed immediately. Lucca learned that every word spoken to them was important and to understand the nuances of everything. He was a quick study that excelled with his training even if it eventually broke him down over time.Lucca grew to become a rather stoic child, capable of writing under the most intense conditions. He no longer flinched at the screams of pain that surrounded them constantly nor did he spare a glance when another recruit was killed for failure. His ‘fake’ contracts became longer and more complicated, occasionally switching languages depending on the need. Writing with different inks became childs play, even to the point where he could scribe something in blood if needed. No amount of yelling or screaming could deter him from fulfilling his writing quota either, his hands moving rapidly across the parchment paper while still ensuring it was legible. Lucca became a fine contract writer, eventually succeeding in his trials and becoming a fully fledged Antivan Crow.
9:30 Dragon - 9:52 DragonLucca was assigned to House de Riva after successfully completing his training as a contract writer. At this point he was given his name Lucca with a complete background created in order to blend him in successfully. Due to his status as a contract writer, his life would have been in constant danger from fellow Antivan Crows who had suffered under contracts in the past. He developed a shy persona with a slight stutter in order to contrast to his pen persona, ensuring nobody would ever discover his identity. Lucca also took contracts occasionally like any other Crow, just fewer than most.As a contract writer, he was ruthless and showed little care for others. His contracts were downright nasty, his habit of tacking on required 'compensation' should a Crow fall during their contract well known among the Crows. He was responsible for an influx of children into the Crows for various Houses due to this. With his Pen Name Vulture, many almost dreaded seeing him at the negotiation table. Vulture had a silver tongue and could conceive the most promising situations to lure their clients into contracts that mainly benefited the Crows. Of course, he always made sure to collect the payment as well.Due to the Antaam invasion he has not had to use Vulture much, their word quota temporarily suspending while they fight the Qunari and to save Treviso.

Eleanor Bane

9:24 dragon - 9:34 DragonIn her youth, Eleanor was formerly from Antiva, recruited into the Crows at a very young age. She was a nobody from birth without a cent to her name, often taking odd jobs to sustain herself prior to being recruited. So when a more permanent job was offered to her she took it without hesitation, unaware of the costs involved until it was far too late to back out. Without any noble standing, she was house-less at first, supplying herself with gear and food in order to survive her training. Her Heir in particular was merciless, squeezing the most she could out of each fledgling under her care. Eventually she was recruited into House De Riva under the previous Talon before Viago alongside several other newer fledglings, her will to survive just enough to catch the attention of the previous Talon.Even in House De Riva her training was harsh and painful, her nights often spent recovering from the injuries she sustained. It was normal for a Crow but she hated it anyways, her eyes often locked onto the windows for hours on end. The entire experience made her feel disgusted and uncomfortable and she despised touching anything the House gave her. Every dagger or piece of uniform had to be meticulously scrubbed clean before she would wear it, her mind only thinking of all the ‘dirty’ hands that had touched it prior to reaching her. Though it took her longer to prepare and she was scolded for it on a daily basis, Eleanor persevered anyway, ensuring everything was ‘clean’ in her eyes. Eventually she grew disgusted with anything that wasn’t cleaned first no matter where it came from. When she was ten years old, Eleanor had been recognized as a capable enough fledgling in her own right and was allowed to take her trial. Yet, when she was finally given enough free rein in order to complete it, she vanished. Using what little coin she had managed to save up during her training, she took off the moment she was given the chance, slipping in between the crowds before her handler could catch her. Eleanor ran and ran until her feet eventually gave out, exhaustion claiming her as she slid away into an alleyway. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, her handler descending upon her the moment she fell to the ground. In a fit of desperation, Eleanor roughly pulled from across the veil, tapping into the magic that had yet to awaken. Her handler was scorched to the very bone, a massive blaze overtaking him until he was finally ‘cleansed’ of the world's filth. Right down to his very bones, his remains falling into a pile of ashes at her feet. Eleanor plucked his skull from the ground, stowing it away to keep as a trophy.
Unfortunately, in her struggle with her handler, her eye had been 'poisoned' by one of the infamous de Riva concoctions, slowly robbing her of her sight. Eleanor tried many remedies during her travels, but after about a week she lost sight entirely in her right eye. She considers it another 'brand' of the Crows, much like the tattoo on the back of her neck.9:34 Dragon - 9:53 DragonEleanor didn’t look back, picking herself back on shaky feet and continuing her escape through the city of crows. She ran until she finally found safe passage out of Antiva, using all of her coin to take her to Nevarra. It was several weeks before she arrived, her remaining coin lost after spending it on sustaining herself. The young, untrained mage spent a few weeks wandering around, resorting to old habits in order to keep herself alive until she was taken in by the Mournwatch. Though she was punished for her acts of thievery, she was allowed to work off her meager debt and eventually accepted entirely. Unlike with the Crows, Eleanor was much happier here, changing her name to suit her new identity. It was a lord, arduous process to begin learning to wield her magic safely, her initial awakening entirely destructive and inefficient. Eleanor’s disdain for the ‘unclean’ remained even in the mournwatch, her hands often covered with gloves for her own comfort. Her control improved drastically over time with both proper instruction and an improved mental state, the girl finally satisfied with what life had given her. She became an apprentice to one of the Lich’s of the Necropolis, considering pursuing lichdom herself but not entirely committed to the idea. Still, she worked hard, taking to her studies easily and eventually ascending in the ranks of both the Mourn Watch and eventually the Mortalitasi.Eleanor is considered unique in that she will not touch anything she considers dirty, the undead she raises exclusively skeletons as opposed to zombies. All of them are forced to cleanse themselves before she will make use of them and she’s known to be slower with her magic as a result as well. However, her precision is unmatched, her ability to strip the flesh from bone legendary among the Mortalitasi. Her unique ways to wield magic and her very specific tastes have caused her to earn the nickname “Shepherd of bones”.A few Crows have attempted to claim her due to a contract on her head, but none have ever succeeded. She's added their bones to her collection but has used none.

PERSONAL
PERSONALITY Eleanor is known for her callousness and sharpness, though that often only happens when she's faced with the 'unclean'. She finds people in general to have varying degrees of 'filth' clinging to their flesh, demanding that others wash themselves before getting too close to her. If they refuse she doesn't press further but she won't allow them to any closer than a few feet towards her. Her disdain for 'filth' comes from her brief stint with the Crows and she considers them to be the 'dirtiest' of all.Outside of that, Eleanor leans more on the intellectual side and enjoys debating various things with others. She's rather open-minded to different ideas provided she's allowed to also offer her own insight on the matter. Eleanor doesn't like to hand over too much control to others, genuinely afraid of losing her autonomy again like she did when she was a child. It causes her to occasionally quarrel with authority but as long as she's given enough 'information' she's often satisfied. Her magic is strong and precise, but slow due to her particular quirks. Eleanor won't raise any dead that isn't a skeleton, and if they come with flesh, she strips it off them first. POSITIVE TRAITS - Intelligent
- Open-minded
- Generous NEGATIVE TRAITS - Callous (conditional)
- Wary of authority
- Perfectionist TEMPERAMENT An aspiring intellectual, she is both ambitious and considerate of those around her unless she finds them to be dirty.
OTHER
POWERS / ABILITIES Antivan Crow - Though she has evaded the Crows for years, she still holds remnants of their training etched into her very bones. She has well-honed reflexes that allow her to adapt a little quicker than most mages, though this is exclusively for close combat situations. Eleanor is also capable of pickpocketing and picking locks as needed, though those skills are a bit rusty.Magic - Though her main element is fire, Eleanor is an experienced and trained necromancer. Unlike others, she casts spells much slower due to her aversion towards the 'fleshy' undead. As a result, she won't raise anything that isn't stripped down to the bone. Her summons tend to be more resilient as a result as her magic reinforces them better with the additional time. In combat her summons are effective tanks as well, her own fighting style bringing her closer in than most mages might.Swordsmanship - Unlike most mages, Eleanor prefers close combat for herself while her skeletons support her. She trained with swords as a child before escaping the Crows, wielding one with a magic focus embedded in the hilt. It acts as her anchor for casting spells, though the sword itself doesn't channel magic.Intellectual - As a member of the Mourn Watch and Mortalitasi, Eleanor is a respected figure in the community. Her research has proven beneficial to the cause as a whole, specifically focused in bones and the skeletal undead. She's incredibly well-versed in Nevarran cultural and rites along with a bit of Antivan culture as well.
